CodaKid has announced two new additions to its summer tech camp roster: 3D Game Design with Minecraft® and Minecraft® Modding with Java™. Both one week full day tech camps run every week this summer from June 1st to August 14th. CodaKid camps are designed to teach coding and game design to kids ages 6 to 14 in a fun and supportive environment.
Minecraft® Modding with Java Camp
Minecraft Mod Design with Java teaches students core Java programming concepts, game design skills, and digital art techniques in engaging small group formats. In this one week camp, students will plan, design, code, and launch their own Minecraft mod, and at the end of the class take it home along with the skills needed to continue modding from scratch. Minecraft Mod Design with Java is an excellent introduction to Java, a popular programming language that was used to create the game Minecraft as well as hundreds of thousands of other programs and applications. With the skills students gain in this camp, they can be expected to gain a solid understanding of foundational coding concepts while taking their game design skills to the next level. This camp was designed for students ages 7 to 14 and students should have the ability to type at least 10 words per minute.
3D Game Design with Minecraft Camp
3D Game Design with Minecraft is a course designed for younger learners – ages 6 to 10. In this course, students learn how to set up their own Minecraft server, install mods from the internet, and gain valuable game design skills. By the end of the course, students will create their very own 3D maps. Students will work individually and on team based game design challenges, and learn about Minecraft architecture and mod design. This camp is an excellent introduction to Minecraft and many students will graduate and continue onto Minecraft Mod Design with Java.
Off Computer Activities
At CodaKid, students participate in numerous off-computer activities during the camp day. Examples include daily design activities, game theory instruction, small group brainstorms, presentations from professional game designers, competitions, contests, and more. Optional activities include a daily Amenzone workout – a crossfit for kids – located 1 minute walk from the CodaKid tech studio. CodaKid strongly believes in balance, and we have designed camps with varied activities that will build our students’ off computer design and presentation skills.
For more information on these camps, you can visit CodaKid’s website for details. CodaKid offers an early registration discount, as well as sibling and referral discounts.
