Minecraft Enchanting: What is Enchanting?
Enchanting in Minecraft is the act of assigning or imbuing an item – typically weapons and armor – with special bonuses or unique assets to give the player an advantage in-game. These bonuses can range from lengthening the lifespan of a weapon or tool to improving the protection afforded by clothing or armor.
How do I Enchant Items in Minecraft?
There are several ways to enchant items in Minecraft. The most common – and perhaps straightforward – way is to enchant items yourself using specific equipment (like an Anvil or an Enchanting Table). You can find items that were already enchanted in-game through loot-drops or collecting/restocking events (like fishing or looting).
You can also trade items with in-game characters to obtain enchanted objects in return.
Minecraft Enchantment Tables, Tools & Equipment
In order for you to enchant items, you will need certain items, materials, tools, or pieces of equipment depending on what you’re enchanting and how you’re enchanting it. The most common – and obvious – equipment would be the Enchanting Table, but there are other implements used for enchanting Minecraft Gear.
Minecraft Enchantment Table
A Minecraft Enchanting Table is essentially a stackable block that lets players enchant items like tools, weapons, armors, and books in exchange for experience point levels. It can be obtained through mining, but you will need a pickaxe to do so. It can also be obtained through Crafting. You will need one (1) book, two (2) diamonds, and four (4) pieces of obsidian placed in a specific pattern.
Bookshelf
A Bookshelf is a decorative Minecraft block that can enhance a Minecraft enchantment table’s ability when placed within close proximity to said table. Each bookshelf increases the number of enchantments that can be applied to a tool as well as their level. You can place up to fifteen bookshelves near an enchanting table. Doing so will achieve the maximum number of enchantments (and their level) for each item.
Lapis Lazuli
In Minecraft, you need Lapis Lazuli – the mineral, not the ore or block – to power an enchanting table. You can obtain it through mining (best to use a stone pickaxe or a lapis lazuli ore), crafting (one lapis lazuli block will yield nine pieces), or smelting (one lapis lazuli block plus any fuel source).
You can also trade an emerald for one lapis lazuli piece with apprentice-level cleric villagers.
Anvil
An Anvil is typically used to repair or rename items. For enchanting, an anvil allows players to combine enchanted items such as tools, weapons, and armors. They can be obtained through mining with a pickaxe or through crafting. You’ll need 31 iron ingots: four iron ingots and three iron blocks (crafted from 9 iron ingots each, for a total of 27).
You might also find a naturally generated one in the Forge Room of the Woodland Mansion.
Grindstone
Minecraft Grindstones are used to repair tools, weapons, and armor. When it comes to enchanting items, you’ll need one to remove all non-curse enchantments from the object in question.
You can easily obtain a grindstone from any village weaponsmiths. They naturally generate.
Book
Books are objects specifically used for enchanting and crafting. They can be combined with other items – using an anvil – to add enchantments to said item.
You can obtain books by mining a bookshelf (without Silk Touch) or destroying it with an explosion. You can also craft one using three (3) pieces of paper and one (1) piece of leather. Using a grindstone, you can also disenchant an Enchanted Book to obtain a normal, usable book.
Minecraft Enchanting Methods: Survival Mode
In Minecraft Survival Mode, there are three ways to enchant an item:
- Enchanting Table. Player can enchant Unenchanted Items by using experience points and lapis lazuli to power the table.
- Anvil + Enchanted Book. Player can combine an Enchanted Book with an item to create an Enchanted Item.
- Anvil. Player can combine two of the same item with different existing enchantments to create a single item bestowed with the enchantments of both items.
There are also a few ways to obtain previously Enchanted Items (i.e., items that already hold an enchantment of some kind):
- Trading Emeralds. Some villages may trade enchanted items for emeralds.
- Monster/Enemy Drops. If you happen to kill a …
-
- Zombie
- Drowned
- Husk
- Piglin
- Zombified Piglin
- Skeleton
- Wither Skeleton
- Stray
… carrying an enchanted item (or two), there is an 8.5% chance of them dropping these enchanted objects.
- Piglin. There is an 8.5% chance drop for an enchanted item when you kill a piglin – or barter with it.
- Fishing.
- Miscellaneous Locations. You may be able to find previously enchanted items in places such as end cities, treasure chests, shipwrecks, mineshafts, jungle temples, desert temples, woodland mansions, ocean ruins, dungeons, strongholds, bastion remnants, and ruined portals.
- Raids (for Bedrock Edition only). There is a slight chance to get an enchanted item by killing pillagers and vindicators during raids
- Cheats. Server operators and players in Singleplayer Worlds can enchant items by enabling cheats and using Minecraft commands.
Minecraft Enchanting Methods: Creative Mode
In Creative Mode, players can enchant items via an anvil and enchanted books (that can be found in the Creative Mode inventory). The Creative Mode Inventory grants access to all enchanted books for all types and levels of enchantments. Simply use the “Search” tab to find the ones you want. You will not need to spend experience points on this, either.
ITEMS/TOOLS
Tool Enchantments
These are the enchantments you can place on Tools:
Efficiency Enchantment
This enchantment increases the tool’s working speed (or the speed at which it mines blocks). The speed bonus percentage will depend on the enchantment tier (up to level V) and block/material being worked.
For instance, a tool with the Efficiency Enchantment at Tier III gets a +500% Speed Bonus when working on Wood. However, the same tool with the same level enchantment will only have a +167% Speed Bonus when working on Iron.
This speed bonus also only applies to all blocks that drop an item when mined.
Here are the different Efficiency Tiers with their respective bonuses on different materials:
Wood
- Tier I: +100%
- Tier II: +250%
- Tier III: +500%
- Tier IV: +850%

- Tier II: +42%
- Tier III: +83%
- Tier IV: +142%
- Tier V: +217%
Fortune Enchantment
Players will have the chance to get copies of mineable items when they use tools with this enchantment to mine. It only works on immediate-drop ores, though, like diamond, emerald, and coal.
It also cannot be used in an item with the Silk Touch enchantment (which we will cover later).
The higher the tier of the Fortune Enchantment, the higher the chances of the enchantment coming into effect. It also increases the chances of getting more than two (2) copies. Here are some of the stats and chance percentages:
Coal | Diamond | Emerald | Redstone | Lapis Lazuli
- Level I: +33% to multiply drops by 2 (average 33% increase)
- Level II: +25% to multiply drops by 2 or 3 (average 75% increase)
- Level III: +20% to multiply drops by 2, 3, or 4 (average 120% increase)

- Level I: +14% Drop Rate Increase
- Level II: +25% Drop Rate Increase
- Level III: +100% Drop Rate Increase
Silk Touch
The Silk Touch Enchantment allows wielders to mine various objects to get the exact item they mined. This means that players can harvest blocks that normally would be too difficult to obtain – or straight up unobtainable, in fact. The items can be converted to their regular form by using normal tools.
This enchantment is useful for increasing inventory yield.
Silk Touch can also release the raw forms of redstone and lapis lazuli. It will also, unfortunately, release the raw ore forms rather than drops of coal, emerald, Nether quartz, and diamond. This means that you’ll still need to smelt them or use a normal tool to receive them.
Note that the Silk Touch enchantment cannot be combined with the Fortune Enchantment. It also only has one level or tier of enchantment.
Silk Touch is naturally available on shovels, axes, and pickaxes.
Players with tools that have this enchantment might be interested in the following blocks:
- Grass
- Stone
- Glowstone
- Ice
- Packed ice
- Cobwebs
- Blue ice
- Mycelium
- Coal ore
- Emerald ore
- Lapis Lazuli ore
- Redstone ore
- Nether quartz ore
- Diamond ore
- Turtle egg
- Bee nest
- Glass
- Podzol
- Nylium
- Ender Chest
Unbreaking
As the name suggests, this enchantment greatly improves the durability of tools, weapons, and pieces of armor. It basically gives said items the chance to not use up a durability point when they normally would.
Higher tiers or levels of this enchantment increase the likelihood of this happening.
The Unbreaking Enchantment can be applied to objects that have durability – like shears and fishing rods – using the Book Enchanting method. This is especially good for diamond tools and pickaxes.
The average lifetime for an item is (level+1) times long. The unbreaking enchantment adds a (100/(level+1))% chance to reduce durability.
For armor, the chance is (60+(40/level+1))% – resulting in a 25%/35%/43% longer lifetime.
Fishing Rod Enchantments
These are the enchantments you can place on Fishing Rods:
Lure
The Lure Enchantment greatly reduces the waiting period for catching fish by 5 x level seconds. An enchantment level up to Tier III means reduction is capped at 15 seconds. It also improves the chances of fishing up Junk or Treasure Shrinks.
Luck of the Sea
This enchantment allowed a 3% increase for catching Treasure items such as enchanted (but damaged) bows and fishing rods, enchanted books, Nautilus Shells, lily pads, nametags, etc. It also reduces your chances of catching Junk (like damaged leather and leather boots, rotten flesh, water bottles, bones) by 1%. Enchantment level goes all the way up to Tier III.
WEAPONS
Sword Enchantments
These are the enchantments you can place on Swords:
Bane of Arthropods
This is a common enchantment for swords. Often referred to as BoA, the Bane of Arthropods Enchantment affects all creatures who, as classified by Science, have an exoskeleton. In Minecraft terms, this refers to:
- Spiders
- Silverfish
- Bees
- Cave Spiders
- Endermites
This enchantment increases the amount of damage dealt to these creatures by 2.5 extra damage per level, per hit. It also adds 1 to 1.5 seconds of Slowness IV at level I. 0.5 seconds of Slowness IV are added per enchantment level, for a maximum of 3.5 seconds total. The BoA enchantment has up to Power Level V.
Fire Aspect
Swords with the Fire Aspect Enchantment can set the target on fire on a hit.
This enchantment adds 4 seconds of Burning per level and has a maximum Power Level II. Water can extinguish the sword’s flames instantly but does not remove the enchantment.
Other benefits of this enchantment include:
- obtaining Cooked Meat when killing meat-bearing animals
- stopping player targets from running (environmental damage stops a player’s sprint)
- wearing down player target’s armor over time
Knockback
This enchantment allows for knockbacks to be done without having to sprint. It also adds 3 blocks to the base of the knockback per level (maximum Power Level II).
The Knockback Enchantment cannot be combined with sprint-related knockbacks to make a stronger knockback.
Other benefits of this enchantment include:
- stopping creepers from exploding
Looting
The Looting Enchantment allows Minecraft players to get more mob drops and rarer mob drops. The higher the tier (up to Tier III), the higher the rarity and quantity of loot dropped when using an item with this enchantment
Sharpness
The Sharpness Enchantment is one of the most common enchantments for swords. It enables blade weapons to deal extra damage depending on the level and type of sword.
For instance, an iron sword with a Tier I Sharpness enchantment will deal the same amount of damage as a diamond sword. This enchantment goes all the way up to Tier V.
In Minecraft Java Edition, this enchantment also adds +1 extra damage for the first level. Each succeeding level – up to Tier V – adds +0.5 damage.
In Minecraft Bedrock Edition, this enchantment also adds +1.25 extra damage per level, up to Tier V.
This enchantment cannot be combined with the Smite Enchantment.
Smite
A rarer enchantment compared to the Sharpness Enchantment, this enchantment deals more damage to undead enemies. In Minecraft terms, this refers to the following foes:
- Zombies
- Zombie Horses
- Zombie Villagers
- Skeletons
- Skeleton Horses
- Wither Skeletons
- Withers
- Piglins
- Husks
- Drowned
All the enemies listed above receive an extra 2.5 damage per level, per hit – for a maximum Power Level V. This means that swords with the smite enchantment can deal up to 12.5 extra damage to an undead mob (for non-critical hits).
This enchantment cannot be combined with the Sharpness Enchantment.
Sweeping Edge
This enchantment applies a damage multiplier to every enemy that is hit within the arc of a sweeping attack – and it increases with the enchantment level, up to Tier III.
However, as of August 2020, the Sweeping Edge Enchantment is now exclusive only to the Java Edition.
Unbreaking
The Unbreaking Enchantment for Swords is mechanically the same as the Unbreaking Enchantment for Tools. It improves the weapon’s life and durability, up to Tier III. The biggest difference would be the ease of enchanting the weapon.
You can enchant a sword with an unbreaking enchantment through normal enchanting methods (i.e., enchanting table), but it’s arguably rare and can only be applied on higher enchanting levels.
The easiest way to obtain a sword with this enchantment would be to enchant a book with unbreaking. This would yield a Book of Unbreaking. You can then combine this book with a regular sword using an anvil to create a sword with the unbreaking enchantment.
Curse of Vanishing
This enchantment enables a Minecraft player to curse an item in-game. Instead of being dropped, any sword with the Curse of Vanishing Enchantment will disappear once its wielder dies. Its enchantment level only goes up to Tier I.
Bow Enchantments
These are the enchantments you can place on bows:
Flame
Just like the Fire Aspect Enchantment for swords, the Flame Enchantment for bow will set targets on fire when hit with an arrow shot from the bow. As with the sword, water will douse the flames on the weapon. However, it will not get rid of the enchantment.
Two things to take note of: (1) bows with the flame enchantment won’t work in rainy weather, and (2) this enchantment only goes up to Power Level I.
Other benefits:
- peaceful farming mobs will drop cooked goods
- stops player targets from sprinting (due to environmental damage)
- useful as ranged detonators for TNT
- light campfires from a distance
Infinity
The Infinity Enchantment is one of the most common and most powerful enchantments for bows. It allows the player to shoot infinite arrows, as long as there’s at least one (1) usable arrow in their inventory. This goes up to enchantment Tier I.
There are certain limitations to this enchantment, though. For instance, it will still wear down the bow’s durability. It also does not guard the bow from taking damage. And if the arrows hit a block rather than an intended target, the arrow from that strike cannot be collected.
The infinity enchantment will not affect tipped arrows and cannot work with the Mending Enchantment.
Curse of Vanishing
This enchantment enables a Minecraft player to curse an item in-game. Instead of being dropped, any bow with the Curse of Vanishing Enchantment will disappear once its wielder dies.
Its enchantment level only goes up to Tier I.
Power
The Power Enchantment for the bow works mechanically like the Sharpness Enchantment for the sword. It enables arrows shot from the bow to deal more damage. The higher the power level, the higher the damage per hit (maximum Power Level V).
Punch
The Punch Enchantment for bows is equivalent to the Knockback Enchantment for swords. It enables players to shoot opponents from a greater distance. It also amplifies the existing amount of knockback present in the bow (allowing for easier mid-range combat). This enchantment goes up to Power Level II.
Unbreaking
The Unbreaking Enchantment for Bows is mechanically the same as the Unbreaking Enchantment for Tools. It improves the weapon’s life and durability, up to Tier III. Any item, weapon, or armor that has durability can have this enchantment applied to it.
Mending
The Mending Enchantment allows you to use experience points to mend your equipped bow. When you wield a bow with this enchantment and use it to kill mobs or mine certain items, the experience points earned from the encounter will be used to repair the bow (if damaged). The experience points leftover will then be added to your experience bar.
This enchantment only goes up to Power Level I.
Crossbow Enchantments
These are the enchantments you can place on Crossbows:
Multishot
This enchantment is quite common for crossbows. Quite similar to the Infinity
Enchantment for bows (in terms of ammo) and Firework Rockets (in terms of function), the Multishot Enchantment lets the crossbow wielder shoot three (3) arrows at once using only one (1) actual arrow.
The level for this enchantment goes up to Tier I only.
Curse of Vanishing
This enchantment enables a Minecraft player to curse an item in-game. Instead of being dropped, any bow with the Curse of Vanishing Enchantment will disappear once its wielder dies. Its enchantment level only goes up to Tier I.
Quick Charge
The Quick Charge Enchantment for crossbows improves the loading speed of the weapon by reducing Charging Time by 0.25 seconds per level of enchantment (up to Tier III). This means that at its max enchantment level, the charging time of a crossbow with the quick charge enchantment is reduced by 0.75 seconds.
Piercing
This enchantment, much like the Multishot Enchantment, enables the crossbow wielder to fire multiple arrows at once. The biggest difference is that this shoots one (1) arrow through multiple targets (i.e., one arrow per target, with multiple targets per shot). Each level of this enchantment – up to Power Level IV – increases the number of fired arrows capable of piercing targets by +1 arrow/target. This caps it at a total of four arrows shot simultaneously to hit four targets.
Unbreaking
The Unbreaking Enchantment for Crossbows is mechanically the same as the Unbreaking Enchantment for Tools. It improves the weapon’s life and durability, up to Tier III. Any crossbow that has durability can have this enchantment applied to it.
Mending
The Mending Enchantment allows you to use experience points to mend your equipped weapon. When you wield a crossbow with this enchantment and use it to kill mobs or mine certain items, the experience points earned from the encounter will be used to repair the bow (if damaged). The enchantment level for mending caps at Tier I.
Trident Enchantments
These are the enchantments you can place on Tridents:
Curse of Vanishing
This Minecraft enchantment allows the player to curse a trident in-game. Instead of being dropped – as per usual in Minecraft – a trident with the Curse of Vanishing Enchantment will disappear once its wielder dies.
The level for this enchantment only goes up to Tier I.
Impaling
Similar to the Bane of Arthropods Enchantment and the Smite Enchantment for swords, the Impaling Enchantment for Tridents gives the weapon a boost in damage against Sea Creatures. In Minecraft terms, that would be the following creatures:
- Cod
- Dolphins
- Fish
- Pufferfish
- Salmon
- Sea Turtle
- Squid
The power level for impaling goes up to Power Level V.
Riptide
The Riptide Enchantment allows the player holding the enchanted trident to be “thrown” along with the weapon. This makes it an ideal means for fast transportation, although it is incompatible with the Loyalty Enchantment and Channeling Enchantment for tridents.
Players may throw their trident and be pulled along only if they’re underwater or are standing in water. If it’s raining – or snowing in certain biomes – the riptide enchantment will work, too.
The enchantment level dictates the distance (or the number of blocks) the trident throws the user, with a maximum level of Tier III. The higher the level, the further the distance.
Loyalty
The Loyalty Enchantment for tridents makes the weapon return to the wielder once thrown. After it has made an impact with an entity or block, the trident can then fly back to the owner at a set speed. The speed is dictated by the enchantment’s level. The higher the level, the faster the trident will return.
Over ten blocks, the return speed is 4 – (enchantment level) seconds per level (maximum Power Level III). So a trident with the loyalty enchantment at Level I would take three (3) seconds to return over ten blocks.
Therefore, the quickest a trident can return would be one (1) second.
Channeling
One of the most visually appealing enchantments in Minecraft, the Channeling Enchantment calls upon a lightning bolt to strike a mob that you hit during a thunderstorm (and if the mob is standing under open sky).
Other benefits of this enchantment include:
- Changing creepers into charged creepers
- Changing villagers into witches
- Changing pigs into zombified piglins
- Changing red mooshrooms into brown mooshrooms, and vice versa
This enchantment cannot be combined with the Riptide Enchantment.
Axe Enchantments
These are the enchantments you can place on Axes:
Bane of Arthropods
Axes can also be given the Bane of Arthropods Enchantment. Like the Bane of Arthropods Enchantment for Swords, this enchantment increases the amount of damage dealt to creatures with exoskeletons by 2.5 extra damage per level, per hit.
In Minecraft, these creatures are:
- Spiders
- Silverfish
- Bees
- Cave
- Spiders
- Endermites
This enchantment also adds 1 to 1.5 seconds of Slowness IV at Tier I. 0.5 seconds of Slowness IV are added per enchantment level, for a maximum of 3.5 seconds total. The BoA enchantment has up to Power Level V.
Fire Aspect
Axes with the Fire Aspect Enchantment can set the target on fire on a hit. This enchantment adds 4 seconds of Burning per level and has a maximum Power Level II.
Water can extinguish the axe’s flames instantly but does not remove the enchantment.
Looting
The Looting Enchantment allows Minecraft players to get more mob drops and rarer mob drops. The higher the tier (up to Tier III), the higher the rarity and quantity of loot dropped when using an axe with this enchantment
Sharpness
The Sharpness Enchantment lets axes deal extra damage, depending on the level.
Smite
The Smite Enchantment lets the axe wielder deal more damage to undead enemies, namely:
- Zombies
- Zombie Horses
- Zombie Villagers
- Skeletons
- Skeleton Horses
- Wither Skeletons
- Withers
- Piglins
- Husks
- Drowned
All the enemies listed above receive an extra 2.5 damage per level, per hit. This enchantment has a maximum Power Level V.
This enchantment also cannot be combined with the Sharpness Enchantment.
Unbreaking
The Unbreaking Enchantment for Axes is mechanically the same as the Unbreaking Enchantment for Tools. It improves the weapon’s life and durability, up to Tier III.
Curse of Vanishing
This enchantment enables a Minecraft player to curse an item in-game. Instead of being dropped, any axe with the Curse of Vanishing Enchantment will disappear once its wielder dies. Its enchantment level only goes up to Tier I.
ARMOR
Helmet/Cap Enchantments
These are the enchantments you can place on Helmets/Caps:
Protection
The Protection Enchantment is a basic enchantment for armor that helps reduce the damage taken from general attacks, explosions, and projectiles. It can also help reduce the damage suffered from drowning, flames, lava, suffocation, and potions.
The damage reduction percentage is basically 4 multiplied by the enchantment level (4 x level). This enchantment’s max power level is Power Level IV – which means the damage reduction percentage is capped at 80%.
Projectile Protection
The Projectile Protection Enchantment reduces the damage the helmet takes from a ranged weapon. The reduction is calculated as (8 x level)%, and the maximum damage reduction possible is 80%. This makes the enchantment particularly useful when fighting foes with ranged attacks and abilities. For instance:
- Drowned (armed with Tridents)
- Players wielding Tridents
- Pillagers
- Blazes
- Strays
- Skeletons
- Snow Golems
- Ghasts
- The Wither
- The Ender Dragon (1.9+)
The projectile protection enchantment level goes all the way up to Tier IV.
Fire Protection
Yet another useful enchantment for armor, the Fire Protection Enchantment reduces the damage taken from fire damage by (8 x level)%. If the player’s character is set on fire, armor with this enchantment can also reduce burn time by (15 x level)%. Its power level goes up to Tier IV, which caps the fire damage reduction at 32% and the burn time reduction at 60%.
Combining this with Fire Resistance Potions can be especially useful when fighting blazes or when venturing into the Nether.
Blast Protection
The Blast Protection Enchantment reduces damage taken from explosives by (8 x level)%. It also reduces the knockback (as a result of the explosion) by (15 x level)%. The enchantment level is capped at Power Level IV.
Respiration
The Respiration Enchantment allows players to breathe underwater for a longer period of time (before ultimately succumbing to drowning). It also slows the rate at which you take damage from drowning and provides underwater visibility.
The formula for underwater breathing with this enchantment is 15 multiplied by the enchantment level (15 x level) seconds to hold your breath (capped at 45 seconds).
The formula for the chance to not take damage with this enchantment is the enchantment level divided by the enchantment level + 1 (2 + (level + 1)).
The respiration enchantment can reach Power Level III.
Aqua Affinity
Whereas the Respiration Enchantment helps players breathe underwater, the Aqua Affinity Enchantment increases the rate at which players can mine blocks underwater. In fact, it increases their underwater mining speed to match their regular mining speed (aka the speed they can mine at when not in water). The player must be standing on a solid surface underwater to gain the full effect of this enchantment.
Thorns
The Thorns Enchantment is one of the rarer enchantments in Minecraft. It damages mobs and players who are near mobs that got hit with the enchantment. The damage calculation for this enchantment is (15 x level)% Chance of inflicting 1 – 4 damage on the attacking enemy, or level – 10 damage if the level exceeds 10.
This enchantment has up to Power Level III.
Do keep in mind, however, that the thorns enchantment depletes an armor’s durability faster.
Curse of Binding
Just like the Curse of Vanishing Enchantment, this enchantment lets you place a curse on an item – in this case, a helmet. Helmets with this enchantment cannot be taken off by the player unless its durability is completely depleted or the player’s character dies.
Thankfully, this enchantment does not work in Minecraft Creative Mode.
Curse of Vanishing
This enchantment lets you place a curse on a helmet so that it vanishes (or despawns) once you die. This is especially beneficial during PVP matches, as your helmet won’t become dropped loot for your opponent to take.
Chestplate Enchantments
These are the enchantments you can place on Chestplates:
Protection
The Protection Enchantment is a basic enchantment for Minecraft chestplates that helps reduce the damage taken from general attacks, explosions, and projectiles. It can also help reduce the damage suffered from drowning, flames, lava, suffocation, and potions.
The damage reduction percentage is 4 multiplied by the enchantment level (4 x level). This enchantment’s max power level is Power Level IV, capping that damage reduction percentage at 80%.
Projectile Protection
The Projectile Protection Enchantment for Chestplates is the same as the Projectile Protection Enchantment for Helmets. It reduces the damage taken from a ranged weapon. The reduction is calculated as (8 x level)%, and the maximum damage reduction possible is 80%. This caps its enchantment level at Power Level IV.
Fire Protection
The Fire Protection Enchantment reduces the damage taken from fire damage by (8 x level)%. Player’s wearing chestplates with this enchantment can also benefit from reduced burn time when set on fire. The formula for burn time reduction is (15 x level)%. Enchantment level goes up to Tier IV, which caps the fire damage reduction at 32% and the burn time reduction at 60%.
Unbreaking
The Unbreaking Enchantment improves the weapon’s life and durability, up to Tier III. All chestplates can have this enchantment applied to it, as they have durability.
Thorns
The Thorns Enchantment damages mobs and players who are near mobs that got hit with the enchantment. However, it depletes the chestplate’s durability faster.
The damage calculation for this enchantment is (15 x level)% chance of inflicting 1 – 4 damage on the attacking enemy, or level – 10 damage if the level exceeds 10. This enchantment goes up to Power Level III.
Curse of Vanishing
The Curse of Vanishing Enchantment lets your curse a chest plate in-game. The curse makes it so that the chest plate vanishes once your character dies (instead of dropping and becoming loot).
Curse of Binding
The Curse of Binding Enchantment lets you place a curse on armor pieces in-game. Chestplates with this enchantment cannot be taken off by the player unless its durability is completely depleted or the player’s character dies.
Boot Enchantments
These are the Minecraft enchantments you can place on Boots:
Depth Strider
The Depth Strider Enchantment increases the player’s speed when swimming in water. In flowing water, this enchantment also reduces the speed at which the water pushes the player’s character.
This Minecraft enchantment goes up to Power Level III, and each level takes away 1/3 of Slowness. Reaching the maximum enchantment level on the boots will enable your character to move through water at the same speed they use on land.
The depth strider enchantment cannot be combined with boots that already have the Frost Walker enchantment.
Feather Falling
A handy little enchantment to have on hand for your armor, the Father Falling Enchantment reduces fall damage by 2 points per level, for a maximum of 8 points (up to enchantment Tier IV only). This enchantment is especially powerful if used with a hay bale, as this combination can help you reduce huge amounts of falling damage taken from drops – not to mention damage taken from Ender Pearl Teleportations, too.
Frost Walker
This Minecraft enchantment freezes water blocks within a radius of 2 + enchantment level, allowing the player to cross bodies of water by walking on the surface. It can also protect the player’s character from suffering magma blocks and campfire damage.
As mentioned earlier, the Frost Walker Enchantment cannot be combined with the Depth Strider Enchantment.
Soul Speed
The Soul Speed Enchantment lets the player walk faster on Soul Sand and Soul Soil. At its highest enchantment level – Tier III – it can actually enable the player to move faster on soul soil than when sprinting on a normal block.
There are two important things to note about this enchantment, however:
There is a slight chance that boots enchanted with Soul Speed will lose their durability whenever used on soul blocks. It’s therefore recommended that you enchant the boots with the Mending Enchantment or the Unbreaking Enchantment (both of which are compatible with soul speed).
This enchantment is difficult to obtain, but it is doable. Barter with the Piglin or look for enchanted objects from the Bastion Remnants Chests and Ruined Portals.
